Bike Tour

Bike Tour along River Tagus

Built on the north bank of river Tagus, Lisbon is intrinsically related to the river. It was the river and its still waters that turned this location in a significant port and brought relevance and development to the city. The river has always been Lisbon’s business card.

Who wouldn’t like to ride along the river?!
Come with us and enjoy the charm of the Tagus river in a fun and relaxing bicycle.

ITINERARIES SUGGESTIONS

1 – River front

The river front bike lane is the plainest of the city and over 6 km long, starting at Cais do Sodré (Praça Duque de Terceira) until Belém Tower in the Belém quarter.

In Cais do Sodré due to the proximity to the river is where are located the biggest shipping agencies and some national Shipowners.

From here participants will proceed riverfront passing by Santos and Alcântara the formerly industrial neighborhoods; then on to Belém quarter. This historical quarter evokes the era of the Discoveries and Portugal´s maritime expansion. According to the legend it was from Belém that caravels would depart and arrive throughout the 15th and 16th centuries. At that time King Manuel I ordered the construction of the Monastery of Jerónimos (Hieronymus) and the Tower of Belém as symbols of the wealth and splendor of the times.

2 – From the city to the River

For a more lasting experience the ride can start in the Park Eduardo VII located north from Avenida da Liberdade, and offers panoramic views over the city. Originally known as Parque da Liberdade, the gardens were rechristened with the name of the British King Edward VII on his visit to Lisbon in 1903.

The participants will go down Avenida da Liberdade, pass by downtown all the way until the Praça do Comércio where the city meets the river…

From Praça do Comércio onwards the participants will discover Lisbon riverfront, passing by Cais do Sodré, Alcântara until Belém quarter.
